Sydney Baird Childers
Theatre teacher and director
A Spokane native, Sydney Baird Childers comes to us from Seattle where she has spent ten years building up the theatre program at Nathan Hale High School. Ms. Baird earned her Masters in Teaching at Gonzaga University before moving to Seattle to teach and work in professional theatre. While at Nathan Hale High School, she established a Theatre Boosters organization, chartered their first Thespian Troupe with the International Thespian Society, created new course offerings, and built a steady fundraising and revenue stream for the theatre department. During her tenure, she directed nearly twenty theatrical productions and produced and directed over a dozen additional performances and fundraising events. She has served on theatre curriculum teams for Seattle Schools and Spokane Public Schools. She is a member of the board of Washington State Thespian Society, a branch of the International Thespian Society. Ms. Baird is excited to continue U High's excellence in theatre, increase course offerings and help students pursue 21st Century Skills through performance and production. Outside of school, she is mom to two little boys and is blessed to have an actor/acting professor husband that supports and understands her dedication to theatre education.
